Many RVers love to use their laptop on the Internet while on the road, but just can’t justify the high monthly fees associated with MiFi mobile hotspot service. Well, if you are a casual user of mobile Internet you’re precisely the target of Walmart’s new offering: prepaid MiFi service starting at just $10.
Before you head on down to WalMart to sign up, you should know that while that initial investment is low there are some drawbacks to the offer. Notably, the per megabyte cost is a bit high: Your $10 investment only buys you 100MB of data, and you will be using Sprint’s notoriously low-speed 3G network.
The upside of the service is you pay for your megabytes and use them when you want to and they never expire. When you run out, you refill your account with either the automatic refill option or you may choose to purchase a certain refill amount. There is no monthly contract so you do pay when you’re not on the road.
The MiFi device itself costs $120, and is available in Walmart stores or at Walmart.com. For more details on the service itself, you can check out the Internet on the Go website.
